Why does BSD require an application and criminal records check to volunteer?
We believe that the safety of our students is of the utmost importance. Our parents and community expect us to ensure anyone who comes into direct or indirect contact with their children has been vetted.
Why is the district using a management system?
A comprehensive management system creates a streamlined application, integrated background checks with subsequent checks every two years and better coordination of volunteers at multiple locations. The district uses a system called Raptor Technologies.
What if I've already completed a background check somewhere else?
BSD must run its own criminal records check.
How will criminal records checks be run?
The information needed to conduct the criminal records check is part of the application. By submitting the application, you're authorizing the district to conduct the check.
What if I decline to give the information needed for the criminal records check?
Your volunteer application will be denied.
Who can I contact if I have any questions about the criminal records check process?
You may contact the BSD Public Safety Department at 503-356-4444.
What should I do if my name changes?
Please email volunteer@beaverton.k12.or.us to request a criminal records check under your new name. The approval process must be completed with your new name before volunteering.
Will I be notified when my application and criminal records check are cleared?
You'll receive an email when your application is received and another email when your application has been approved with instructions on how to set up your user profile in Raptor. Once that's complete, you can view and sign up for volunteer opportunities at the school and district sites that you selected.
When will I need to resubmit an application?
You'll need to resubmit your application every two years. At that time, another criminal records check will be conducted. You'll receive an email reminder about 30 days in advance.
What happens if I disagree or believe a mistake has been made on the criminal records check?
Individuals who have been convicted of any crime listed in ORS 342.143, or the substantial equivalent of any of those crimes if the conviction occurred in another jurisdiction, or in Oregon under a different statutory name or number, may not serve as a volunteer. If you resolve your issue through the courts and your record is expunged, you're welcome to reapply. If you have questions regarding this decision, please call our Public Safety Department at 503-356-4444.
Can I be denied volunteer status even if I haven't been convicted of a crime listed on the district website?
BSD reserves the right to exclude any volunteer that it determines would be a potential disturbance to the educational process. BSD can deny and revoke volunteer status at anytime.
How do I sign up for the volunteer positions that I'm interested in?
After creating a user profile in Raptor, you'll be able to view and sign up for volunteer opportunities at the school and district sites that you selected.
How do I create a profile?
Follow the instructions in the email that you receive indicating that your application has been accepted.
How can I change my volunteer locations?
You can make changes to your volunteer locations in your user profile.
What should I do if I no longer wish to volunteer in the district?
If you no longer wish to volunteer in the district, please send an email notification to volunteer@beaverton.k12.or.us.
Can volunteers share the email addresses within Raptor?
Volunteers cannot share a common email address. Volunteers are identified in Raptor based on their email address, and each volunteer must enter their own unique email address.
How do community members sign up to receive volunteer information?
Schools are using ParentSquare to schedule volunteer activities. After completing the online volunteer application, community members (anyone who is not a parent or guardian in BSD) need to register for a ParentSquare account by going to the district’s website.

How do student volunteers apply?
There is one common application for all volunteers. This application includes a question for applicants to indicate if they are 17 or younger. Volunteers 18 or older should indicate that they are community members. A juvenile offender check will be run for applicants under 18, and an adult check for those 18 and older.
How are volunteer IDs scanned?
There is a camera at the back of the mounted login tablets. Volunteers will be asked to scan both sides of their ID.
Is a sex offender check run only on the first time an ID is scanned or every time?
A sex offender check is run each time a visitor or volunteer signs in.
What happens if a volunteer or visitor does not pass the sex offender check?
If a volunteer’s application is denied, they will receive an email from the BSD Public Safety Department. If they have questions about the denial, they can call 503-356-4444.
During the check in process, if an individual (either visitor or volunteer) is found on the sex offender registry, they’ll be asked to wait in the office until an administrator or designee verifies their status. If it is not a match with someone on the registry, they’ll be cleared, and a volunteer/visitor badge will be issued. If they’re a match, they will not be allowed in the building.
How does a volunteer know they have been cleared?
Once they have been cleared by the BSD Public Safety Department, volunteers will receive a confirmation email from Raptor. If not in their primary inbox, this email may be directed to their spam folder. Volunteers need to follow the steps in this email to activate their Raptor account. The username is the volunteer’s email address. Volunteers will be directed to create a new password.
If a volunteer is unable to login to Raptor, who should they contact?
Volunteers cannot login into their Raptor profile until they have been cleared by the BSD Public Safety Department. Once cleared, they’ll receive a confirmation email from Raptor with next steps. If after that clearance, they’re still unable to login, they should contact support@raptortech.com or 1-877-7RAPTOR (1-877-772-7867) or 713-880-8902.
If a volunteer doesn’t remember their password, what should they do?
Volunteers can click on the “Forgot Password” link in the Volunteer Portal on the district’s website.
What if a volunteer changes their email address?
Volunteers are identified in Raptor by their email address. If they need to update or correct their email address, they should contact support@raptortech.com or 1-877-7RAPTOR (1-877-772-7867) or 713-880-8902.
Can volunteers correct their hours from the profile?
